Our Elephants

Jana

Jana

Jana is playful and cheeky yet a caring and gentle elephant, so much so she adopted and is never far from our youngest female Nam-Tan. Loving her food, Jana will always be first in line at snack time eager to make sure she gets first chance at a trunk-full of food. Jana truly brings out her love for water in our beautiful, flowing river.

Nam-Tan

Nam tan

A ball of energy, young Nam-Tan, whose name means ‘sugar’ is very sweet and will always make her presence known with little trumpet calls when she is excited. She is not keen on starchy, green bananas that can be a bit bitter and she will toss them to the side as she reaches for the sweeter yellow fruit. Nam-Tan is closely bonded to her adoptive mother “Jana”.

Nam Neung

Nam neung

Nam Neung is really very mischievous and if given the chance she will cheekily splash the other elephants or even our guests in the pool. She can also be seen rubbing mud on others in the herd to get a reaction out of them. As a teenager she is extremely playful charging into the water and splashing around with her trunk. Nam-Neung has become bonded with our Matriarch Choosri and teases her until she gets a reaction.

Choosri

Choosri

Herd matriarch Choosri has seen it all over her lifetime. Soft and gentle she is a favourite among our guests as she patiently waits to receive her snacks. Choosri’s favourite time is going off into the jungle where she can placidly eat to her hearts content. Although she can be strict and short-tempered when it comes to controlling the herd, Choosri has a soft spot for Nam-Neung and is never seen far from her.

Preuk-sa

Preuk-sa

At 3.5 tonnes, beautiful Preuk-sa can be a sight to marvel at. With a particular love for bananas, she will always be the fastest through treks and walks with the knowledge there will be a delicious treat waiting. During her free time, Preuk-sa loves to find a nice sturdy tree or rock to scratch her enormous body on or will play with her best friend Jana.

Ploy Suay

Ploy Suay

With a name translating to “Beautiful Gem”. Ploy is definitely a beautiful soul to have around as one of our herd and she has a great sense of fun. Whether it is wanting others to follow her into the pool to play, or rolling in the mud with her best friends Nam-Tan and Jana, or posing with her trunk up for photos with our guests. She sometimes tries to steal food from her friends a frustrated bellow invariably follows if she is caught in the act.

Bai-Ngern

Bai Ngern

With the purest of souls, Bai-Ngern has nothing but time and patience for her elephant friends and our guests. Easy-going and compassionate she is closely bonded with her best friend Tangtai, an elephant that is rather more excitable, but Bai-Ngern adsorbs any edginess effortlessly and only gets irritable if she has to wait for food.

Tangtai

Tangtai

Tangtai arrived with us after receiving a poor start in life. She was at first distrustful and anxious but has found peace at her home here in Phang Nga. She loves being with her best friend Bai-Ngern and only fully trusts Lek, Ness and Jake who have devoted their lives to her care, Tangtai is often seen enjoying herself splashing water with her trunk in the pool or wandering happily in the jungle browsing on bamboo to her hearts content.

Baramee

Baramee

Easily identifiable by his handsome tusks, Baramee is our only male. He is naturally solitary and as he is still in his teenage years he can sometimes be unpredictable, he spends a lot of time in the jungle roaming and grazing under the watchful eye of his career. When he is with the rest of the herd, he has a dominating presence, but this hard exterior is completely washed away as he enthusiastically throws his massive body around to pool creating splashing and laughter.
